The family runs Villa Ban Lao's restaurant and function facilities are in the midst of the large gardens, which are shaded with palms and fruit trees and surrounded by a lily filled pond, originally the family's boating lake.
Candlelit in the evening by locally made terracotta lamps, it is a lovely space to drink, dine and relax. The main building, in classic mid-20th century Luang Prabang style, features stone floors with inset patterns, originally imported from Vietnam and established as a design feature of the era. Glass brick windows create patterned areas of sunlight in the stairwell, with metalwork stair banisters an unusual detail. The charm and comfort of Villa Ban Lao is heightened by a wonderful welcome from the friendly hosts. This is a real treasure near the heart of Luang Prabang.
